Central
Iowa union leaders will hold a press conference to express their
opposition to the proposed Project Destiny to be voted on in Polk,
Dallas and Warren Counties on Tuesday, July 10.
“The increase in the sales tax far outweighs any reduction in
property taxes for the average working person in central Iowa,” said
Don Brown, Vice President of the South Central Iowa Federation of
Labor, AFL-CIO. The benefits are skewed to businesses and large
property owners.”
Voters should also consider the fact that basic needs are not being
met in the three-county area. A regressive tax to fund optional
benefits should not take precedence over meeting citizens’ most
fundamental needs.
